ROME LEONARDO da VINCI (FCO) AIRPORT MEETING PROCEDURES
IMPORTANT NOTICE: AS OF MAY 2008, THE INNER SECURITY ZONE OF FCO AIRPORT IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. YOU MAY ENTER THE CONCOURSE AT ANY POINT IN B OR C. REGARDLESS OF WHERE YOU ENTER, GO TO THE SNACK BAR COFFEE SHOP IN TERMINAL C AS NOTED BELOW... Finding your driver... The public terminal area of the primary Rome Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino (Code FCO) airport (located in the coastal town of Fiumicino, Italy and servicing Rome city) is small for a big city airport. Terminals B and C are close together, with a short 3 minute walk from one end to the other of the public concourse. The airport is disorganized, with few easily recognizable features. In order to expedite your pickup, we have selected one common meeting point in the airport for all clients for all arrivals. It will be the TERMINAL C SNACK BAR & COFFEE SHOP, shown in the photo much further below on this page. The Snack Bar is located across from a bookstore. See MEETING POINT photo at the bottom of this page. Timing:
This airport has a very slow luggage retrieval and baggage carousel system manned by personnel who take frequent coffee breaks. Also, most arriving passengers must pass through Immigration as well as Customs and Homeland Security checkpoints before leaving the Security Zone. Typically most passengers will not arrive to the the public area for at least 60 minutes after the arrival of their aircraft, and more likely closer to 90 minutes. Therefore, unless requested otherwise, your driver will be at the Terminal C Snack Bar & Coffee Shop starting 50 minutes after the actual arrival time of your flight. Arriving in a foreign land can be stressful. This way you can go through the arrival process in a relaxed fashion knowing your driver will be waiting for you at the appropriate time. Unless you requested otherwise, your driver will then wait for 70 minutes, or until 2 hours after your flight has landed. Very important notice about lost luggage at the Rome airport... IT'S OUT OF CONTROL! Missing luggage is has become a daily occurrence for passengers at the main Rome airport, especially for those who have changed flights before arriving in Rome. On some days as many as a third of passengers on any particular flight have lost bags! If you find that your bags are missing, you will be required to file a claim INSIDE the Security Zone. This can take up to one hour, and worse, your driver will have no way of knowing that you have even arrived in Rome, as we cannot enter the Security Zone. Normally, the driver will wait until 2 hours after your scheduled arrival time, then leave, and you will be charged in full for an airport service. Therefore, if you find yourself in this predicament, find a fellow passenger who has a cellular phone and ask if they will call our Emergency phone number below. Or go to the guard at the exit and tell him what happened. You will be permitted to leave the Security Zone for 15 minutes, and take that time to go find your driver at the Snack Bar. Be sure to bring your ticket and your Passport with you as you exit so you can return to the Security Zone.
